Was This Really Me?

This picture cracks me up. I learned how to scan old photos into a file on the computer and this is the first one I chose to scan. I've thought about it all day. Why this one? This has to be one of the worst photos ever taken of me and I've had some really bad pictures taken. I wasn't even trying here. No makeup, a halfhearted smile, it looks like I haven't taken a shower in days. I do remember when this was taken. Katie, the little bundle of joy on the right, was just a few days old and my parents were leaving to go back to their home 8 hours away and I was about to be left with 2 kids to deal with on my own. I was thinking, "Really? You are just going to leave? Wait a minute. What happened to my life?"
I guess I really do like the picture, 13 years later. Those early years with the kids were tough, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I got to stay home with them until they started school and then I just went to school with them. I've always been able to be close to where they are.
The sweet little baby girl in pink has been so unpredictable, but so fun to watch grow up, and her brother, who is the reason there is a snake in my house, is turning into a man so fast that I don't want to turn my back for even a second for fear I'll miss something.

Thanksgiving 2009

It is the Sunday after Thanksgiving. All is quiet for the moment. Soon we will be putting up the tree, watching more football, and getting ready for the week ahead. My son just turned 15. My daughter is 13. There have been so many things in their lives that I wish I would have written down, but I've just never done it. However, I've decided that it is not too late. This blog will be for recording events that happen and remembering things from the past - what little I can remember. My mother-in-law once told me that I wouldn't remember the 90's and I think she is right. The kids were babies then and it is all a blur, but we'll see what I can pull from my memory.
